Objective: To determine if there is an association between neonatal risk factors such as neonatal sepsis, low birth weight, hyaline membrane and neonatal asphyxia with late neonatal mortality at the Eleazar Guzmán Barrón Regional Hospital in the 2009-2018 period. Materials and method: An observational, analytical, retrospective study, type cases and controls were proposed. 50 medical records of infants who have died and 200 of infants who have survived risk factors such as neonatal sepsis, low birth weight, hyaline membrane and neonatal asphyxiation who were treated at Eleazar Guzmán Barrón Hospital in Nuevo Chimbote were included. Nonparametric studies of criteria independence were considered through the distribution of Chi square with a 5% level of significance. Determining the strength of association of the variables with OR and the 95% confidence interval with the risk factors affected will be a multivariate analysis using logistic regression. Results: The statistical analysis of the variables under study reported neonatal mortality with the following risk factors: neonatal sepsis (OR 3.94; CI: 2.00- 7.77; P: 0.0000), hyaline membrane (OR: 3.76; CI: 1.96- 7.21; P: 0.000), neonatal asphyxiation (OR: 2.24; CI: 1.15-4.34; P: 0.0157). While the low birth weight (OR: 0.57; CI: 0.30-1.10; P: 0.0924) had no significant association with neonatal mortality. In the multivariate analysis, the variables were found to be highly variable: neonatal sepsis, hyaline membrane and neonatal asphyxiation. Conclusion: Neonatal sepsis, hyaline membrane and neonatal asphyxia are neonatal risk factors associated with late neonatal mortality at Eleazar Guzman Barrón Hospital in Nuevo Chimbote.
