There are areas of Peru where poverty rates are high, despite efforts to combat it and positive economic growth. According to the latest district monetary poverty map (According to INEI, 2015): Curgos, located in the province of Sánchez Carrión of the department of La Libertad, is the poorest in Peru, since 97.4% of its population is in a situation of poverty and 86.7% in extreme monetary poverty; Districts with similar levels of poverty in 2007 decreased their population in this condition, so it is considered pertinent to establish which variables of the research conducted by INEI (2011) on poverty in Peru, have the greatest impact on households in the Curgos district. In order to meet the objective of this research, a non-linear probability model with a binary response logistic distribution was used, which allows us to study the causality relationship between a dependent variable (poverty condition by the Unsatisfied Basic Needs methodology) and the set of independent variables (Household size; number of income earners; years of average education of the rest of the household; gender, age, years of study, quality of employment, number of occupations of the head of the household; land tenure; possession of business assets; water availability, hygienic services, electricity and telephone). For the construction of the data, a questionnaire, based on the National Household Survey, was applied to the informants in the Curgos district. The results obtained show that the determinants of poverty with the greatest impact on households in the Curgos district are: gender of the head of the household, number of income earners, years of study of the head of the household, and provision of basic services (water, hygienic services, electricity and telephon possession).
