Objective: To determine if obesity is associated with hepatic steatosis in children and adolescents Reátegui Delgado Piura hospital 2018 Methodology: Observational, correlational study, of secondary, retrospective, cross-sectional information source and of cases and controls in a 1: 1 ratio , Children with age range of 5 to 10 years and adolescents from 11 to 19 years were included, the sample consisted of 110 children and adolescents of which 55 were for cases (with steatosis) and 55 for controls, (without steatosis), the controls were matched by sex and age. The method of choice was not random for convenience. The analysis of the data obtained from the variables measured in Stata 11.0 was carried out. Results: The average age was 9.67 years and the predominant sex was female, appearing in 52.73%. 83.64% of the cases presented acanthosis and 89.09% were obese. High cholesterol in 30.91% of cases and controls. HDL was found high in 45.45% of cases compared to 34.55% of controls. Likewise, triglycerides were altered in 81.82% of cases compared to 72.73% of controls and transaminases are altered TGO 9.9% of cases and TGP in 18.18% of cases. Hepatic steatosis was found that 43 (78.18%) of the cases presented mild steatosis, 10 (18.18%) presented moderate steatosis and 2. (3.6%) presented fatty liver. In the association study, obesity is associated with hepatic steatosis OR of 3.35 (1.10 - 7.3) Likewise, the altered abdominal perimeter is associated with steatosis with an OR of 3.65 (1.21 - 6.3). Conclusion: Obesity and abdominal perimeter are associated with hepatic steatosis.
