Objective: ““Determine if the inappropriate use of social networks is a factor associated with anxiety in medical students at the Antenor Orrego Private University, during the 2020-2021 period of the COVID-19 pandemic. Material and methods: ““An analytical, cross-sectional study was carried out in which 269 students enrolled in the Faculty of Human Medicine of the Antenor Orrego Private University were included, during the period 2020-2021, who met the selection criteria “, to which 2 surveys were carried out: the Zung Self-Assessed Anxiety Scale and the Escurra questionnaire on the use of social networks. The results were analyzed using descriptive statistics where frequencies and percentages were used for the qualitative variables; and analytical statistics was done using the Chi square test, to assess the association of the 2 variables studied, the OR was calculated, in order to respond to the objectives of the study. Results: “They show that the proportion of inappropriate use of social networks in university students who presented anxiety was 95.2%, and that the inappropriate use of social networks (p<0.001; OR=34.9; IC95% [11.7- 104.2]) and having had a previous anxiety diagnosis (p<0.001; OR=5.5 IC 95% [2.7 - 11.6]) were independently associated with anxiety in university students during the COVID-19 pandemic”. Conclusion: The inappropriate use of social networks is a factor associated with anxiety in medical students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Key words: Social Networking, Anxiety, Medical Students
