The objective of the research was to determine the relationship between Family Functionality and Academic Performance in 5th grade high school students of a Public Educational Institution of Trujillo- 2016. The research is non-experimental of the correlational level for this a population of 82 students was used, whose ages range between 16 and 17 years. In order to evaluate Family Functionality, the Olson Phase III Questionnaire or Inventory instrument was used, with its two dimensions Family Cohesion and Adaptability and for academic performance the record of teachers' grades of the total courses taught in the 5th year of high school. The Family Functionality instrument was submitted to the Alfha de Cronbach internal reliability test, which presented a coefficient of 0.857. The chi-square distribution of criteria independence was used for its statistical significance; the results they gave of both variables allowed us to determine that there is a significant relationship between Family Functionality and the Academic Performance of students in the 5th year of secondary school. In the family cohesion and academic performance dimension there is a positive relationship as well as in the family adaptability and academic performance dimension. To conclude, the statistical analysis indicates that there is a significant positive relationship between Family Functionality and Academic Performance.
