Objective: To determine if the early administration of norepinephrine decreases mortality compared with its late administration in patients with septic shock. Material and methods: An analytical, retrospective cohort study was developed. The sample consisted of 56 patients diagnosed with septic shock exposed to early administration of noradrenaline and 56 patients who received late administration of noradrenaline. Results: A total of 112 medical records were reviewed, of which the group that received early norepinephrine had an average of 70.2 ± 18.8 years of age, 42 (75%) were women, 92.9% had some comorbidity. Septic shock of respiratory origin predominated in 44.6% and 41.1% in the early and late administration group, respectively. The probability of dying decreased 42% in patients with early administration compared to the group that was administered late (P=0.008 RR: 0.58, 95%CI: [0.38-0.88]). Of the intervening variables, it was found that acute kidney injury is an independent risk factor for mortality (RRa: 1.69, 95% CI: 1.27 - 2.25). Conclusion: Early norepinephrine administration decreases mortality compared with late administration in patients with septic shock.
