Objectives: To determine the cardiorespiratory changes of spinal anesthesia compared to epidural anesthesia in emergency caesarean sections in Regional Teacher’s Hospital of Trujillo. Material and Methods: Analytical, observational, prospective cohort study, carried out between november 2018 and april 2019. The sample consisted of 126 pregnant women, selected through probability sampling. The mean comparison test was applied to determine differences in cardiorespiratory changes between the two anesthetic techniques. Results: In this study, a greater number of cases of hypotension were observed with spinal anesthesia, obtaining 12 cases at 5 min, 23 cases at 15 min, 8 cases at 30 min, 5 cases at 45 min, and 2 cases at the end of the cesarean section; bradycardia was observed in the same number of cases, obtaining 1 case at 5 min with both anesthetic techniques; a greater number of cases of tachypnea were observed with spinal anesthesia, obtaining 6 cases at 5 min, 6 cases at 15 min, 6 cases at 30 min, 5 cases at 45 min and 5 cases at the end of the cesarean section; no cases of hypoxia were observed with both anesthesia techniques. Conclusions: It was found that spinal anesthesia produces more cardiorespiratory changes than the epidural anesthesia technique; and that the main complication with the practice of these techniques is hypotension, leading to more cases of hypotension with spinal anesthesia.
