The objective was to determine if the neutrophil-lymphocyte index is a factor associated with morbidity and mortality in patients with intestinal obstruction admitted to the emergency service of the Regional Teaching Hospital of Trujillo. Material and Methods: an observational, cross-sectional analytical study was carried out. The sample was made up of 103 patients with a diagnosis of intestinal obstruction admitted to the HRDT emergency service and underwent surgery during the period 2015 - 2022. Medical records of patients with a diagnosis of colon neoplasia with a history of surgical treatment or chemotherapy or with disease were excluded. known hematology. Bivariate analysis was performed using Pearson's Chi square test or Student's T test for independent groups. Non-normal data were analyzed using Mann- Whitney U tests. Results: Of the 103 patients included in the study, 10 died. Of these, the mean age was 65.3 (±10.71) years, 70% (7) were male, 40% (4) had HTN and none had Diabetes Mellitus. Regarding the survivors, the average age was 53.95 (±18.44) years, 66.7% (62) were male, 10.8% (10) had HTN and only 9 .7% (9) had Diabetes Mellitus. HBP was the only variable that was significantly different when comparing survivors and deceased (p=0.010). Likewise, it was found that the deceased had an average NLR of 9.20 (±8.65) compared to 2.85 (±4.29) for the survivors (p=0.046). Likewise, of the 10 patients who died, 70% (7) had an elevated NLR, compared to 8.6% (8) of the survivors who also had an abnormal NLR result. This difference was significantly different between deceased and survivors (p<0.05). On the other hand, of the 103 patients included in the study, it was evident that 29 presented complications. None of the variables under study were significantly different when comparing both groups (p>0.05).
