Determine if nail psoriasis is a risk factor for onychomycosis in adult patients with psoriasis vulgaris treated in the Dermatology service of the Belén Hospital in Trujillo, 2018-2022. Material and methods: Observational, retrospective and analytical study of cases and controls. The sample was 282 adults, which was divided into two groups, cases, there were 141 adults with onychomycosis and controls, 141 without onychomycosis. The statistical analysis was through the Chi square test, the calculation of the Odds Ratio (OR) and logistic regression, considering significance at 5%. Results: The average age of the adults was 51.1 years, 60.6% were male and 13.8% of them were obese. In adult patients with psoriasis vulgaris, the frequency of nail psoriasis and with a diagnosis of onychomycosis was 58.2%, while the frequency of nail psoriasis without a diagnosis of onychomycosis was 17.7%. Furthermore, it has been shown that adult patients diagnosed with nail psoriasis have a significantly higher risk of developing onychomycosis, with an Odds Ratio (OR) of 6.449. On the other hand, age greater than or equal to 60 years (OR=2.787) and male sex (OR=2.186) were factors that increased the probability of occurrence of onychomycosis. Conclusion: Nail psoriasis was a risk factor for onychomycosis in adult patients with psoriasis vulgaris treated in the Dermatology service of the Hospital Belén de Trujillo, 2018-2022.
