To determine if arterial hypertension is a risk factor associated benign paroxysmal positional vertigo in patients of the Hospital de Especialidades Básicas la Noria between January 2017 and December 2019. Material and methods: A retrospective case-control study was conducted in which 294 patients were included, according to selection criteria, which were divided into 2 groups: patients with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo and patients without this pathology; applying the odds ratio and the chi square statistical test. Results: In patients with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, the frequency of arterial hypertension was 72%, in comparison with the group of patients without benign paroxysmal positional vertigo in which the frequency was 47%. Arterial hypertension is a risk factor for benign paroxysmal positional vertigo with an odds ratio of 2.24 which was significant (p <0.05). The multivariate analysis was performed through logistic regression, which corrobotates the significance of the risk for the factors: arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus and dyslipidemia, which represent risk factors for benign paroxysmal positional vertigo. Conclusion: Arterial hypertension is a risk factor associated with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo in patients of the Hospital de Especialidades Básicas la Noria between 2017 and 2019.
