In the present research entitled “Analysis of vehicular congestion and proposal for road improvement at the intersection of Sanchez Cerro and Vice avenues in the city of Piura, Piura”, it is observed that these avenues are of great importance in the development of the daily life of the city, due to the large number of vehicles that circulate and the different activities that are carried out in the zone, which does not have an alternative solution to the problem of vehicular congestion and disorder that occurs at the rush hour, and this is why a solution plan is offered. The main objective of this thesis is to provide a comprehensive solution to this problem that is currently presented; for this, a manual vehicle count was carried out for a period of 24 hours for 7 day a week, from Monday to Sunday, and then calculate vehicle traffic volume, flow and speeds rates with which we determine the day of maximum vehicle demand and peak hours. Applying the HCM 2010 methodology in the case of signalized intersections, the traffic light times, road capacity and service levels were determined. Likewise, the Traffic Engineering book written by Rafael Cal, Mayor Reyes Spindola and James Cardenas based on the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM 2010) was used. Therefore, it is concluded that despite the current situation that exists in the country due to COVID – 19 pandemic, there is a great vehicular demand at the intersection of Sanchez Cerro and Vice avenues, which presented a different behavior in each access. Regarding the intersection evaluated, there was a great vehicular demand of motorcycle taxis which represents the main cause of traffic congestion in the area.
