Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine whether pulmonary ultrasound is valid for the diagnosis of community-acquired pneumonia. Material and Methods: A study of diagnostic tests was carried out that evaluated 86 patients, who met the selection criteria, with pulmonary ultrasound and computed tomography. The sensitivity, specificity, and predictive values of lung ultrasound were determined. Pregnant patients in cardiorespiratory arrest or post-CPR, and those with a diagnosis of interstitial lung diseases or lung neoplasms were excluded. Results: The average age was 74.5 ± 17.83 years; 58.1% corresponded to the female sex; pulmonary ultrasound for diagnosis of community-acquired pneumonia had a sensitivity of 96.08%, specificity of 94.23%, positive predictive value of 96.08%, and negative predictive value of 95.35%. Conclusion: Pulmonary ultrasound is valid for the diagnosis of communityacquired pneumonia.
