Objective: To determine if the hematocrit / serum albumin ratio is a predictor of severity in preeclampsia. Material and methods: A retrospective case-control study was conducted in which 180 pregnant women diagnosed with preeclampsia were included, according to selection criteria; divided into 2 groups: patients with severe preeclampsia and mild preeclampsia; applying the odds ratio, and the chi square statistical test. Results: The frequency of hematocrit / elevated serum albumin ratio in pregnant women with severe preeclampsia was 73% and in mild preeclampsia was 38%. An OR = 4.52 (p = 0.032) was calculated for the hematocrit /serum albumin ratio in pregnant women with severe preeclampsia. Conclusion: The hematocrit / elevated serum albumin ratio is a predictor of severity in preeclampsia.
