colorrectal.
Determine if metabolic syndrome (MS) is a risk factor for colorectal cancer (CRC) in patients of the gastroenterology service of Trujillo Regional Teaching Hospital during the period 2010-2022. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This study is analytical, observational, case-control type. The population consisted of 210 patients treated in the outpatient facility and hospitalization of the gastroenterology service of the Trujillo Regional Teaching Hospital during the period 2010-2022, who met the inclusion criteria. They were distributed into two groups, 70 patients in the case group and 140 in the control group, a data collection form was used and with information obtained the odds ratio was calculated and the statistical test used was chi square, determining the level of significance at p<0.05. RESULTS: It was identified that there is no association between the metabolic syndrome and the risk of colorectal cancer (OR: 1.69; 95% CI: 0.94 - 3.01; p = 0.076), apart from the components of the metabolic syndrome, only hypertension and hyperglycemia were related to CRC (p<0.05) also in the multivariate analysis these variables were significant (p<0.05). CONCLUSION: metabolic syndrome is not a risk factor for colorectal cancer.
