Objective: The objective was to determine if gestational obesity is a risk factor associated with labor dystocia in pregnant women at the Belén Hospital in Trujillo. Materials and methods: An observational, retrospective case-control study was carried out in patients who delivered in the gynecology and obstetrics service of the Belen Hospital, during the period from January 2021 to December 2023. The diagnosis of labor dystocia was recorded, to later distinguish patients with a diagnosis of gestational obesity which was obtained from clinical history data on weight and height by calculating the value of their BMI > 30. Results: The study included a total of 136 patients, of the pregnant women evaluated, 35.3% presented gestational obesity and 64.7% did not present gestational obesity. Of the 100% of pregnant women who do not have a dystocic birth, 45.6% (62) are not obese; Of the 100% of pregnant women who have labor dystocia, 30.9% (42) have obesity (BMI>30). With a P-value of 0.0001 it is less than 0.05 and an Ods Ratio 16.693, which shows us that pregnant women with gestational obesity are 16 times more likely to have dystocia than those who do not have gestational obesity. Conclusions: Gestational obesity is a risk factor associated with the presence of labor dystocia in pregnant women who delivered in the gynecology and obstetrics service of the Belén Hospital
