Objetive: Determine the association between caffeine consumption and psychopathological alterations: Anxiety and Depression in medical students from Piura. Methodology: An analytical, cross-sectional census-type study has been carried out, using a self-administered survey. 102 medical students from the city of Piura were included. Descriptive tables were made, showing the characteristics of the population, as well as another showing anxious and depressive symptoms in medical students from the first to the sixth year. Analytical statistics were carried out, where tables were generated, one showing the responses to the amount of caffeine consumption with anxious and depressive symptomatology and another showing the non-responses to caffeine consumption with anxious and depressive symptomatology. Results: We found that the use of carbonated and energy drinks found a significant association only for the anxiety process (p: 0.03 to 0.04) with ranges for Rpa between 1.01 to 1.65 and values for the CI between 0.06 to 1.98 with consumption values between 5 to 7 times per week. Among the other variables found, alcohol consumption, an association was found for the presence of depression p:0.05; Rpa: 1.12, CI: 0.98- 2.12. Conclusions: The use of carbonated and energy drinks found a significant association only for the anxiety process (p: 0.03 to 0.04). In conditions of 1 to 3 times a week, instant coffee was present in 45.10% of the participants; The consumption of stale coffee (essence) in 54.90% of the records indicated its consumption between 1 to 3 times per week. 49 cases of anxiety (48.04) were detected with scores greater than 4 points. 41 records were detected regarding the presence of depressive symptoms (40.20%) of the total.
