Objective: To evaluate the in vitro antifungal effect of the ethanolic extract of Fragaria ananassa (“strawberry”) on Microsporum gypseum. Method: An in vitro experimental study was conducted, where the ethanolic extract of F. ananassa (“strawberry”) was prepared in four concentrations. The method of Kirby Bauer and the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) was used to evaluate the antifungal activity of the ethanolic extract of F. ananassa on M. gypseum. Two groups were established: 1 experimental group (treated with ethanolic extract of F. Ananassa at the concentrations of 75%, 50%, 25% and 5%) and 1 positive control group (Fluconazole), 13 repetitions were performed in each case. Results: The 75% concentration had a greater antifungal effect with an inhibition halo of 28.1 mm as opposed to the 5% concentration of the extract with an inhibition halo of 11.2 mm. A difference was found between fluconazole (14.7 mm) and the 75% concentration of the ethanolic extract of F. ananassa (28.1 mm). A significant increase in absorbance by spectrophotometry was observed in all the concentrations of the 5%, 25%, 50% and 75% ethanolic extract of F. ananassa compared to the positive control after 48 hours of incubation being statistically significant.
