The objective of the study was to evaluate the effect of mannan - oligosaccharides (MOS) in the diet on the productive behavior and economic profitability of the breeding of guinea pigs (Cavia porcellus) during the growth phase (15-30 days) and fattening (31 -60 days). We used 80 male guinea pigs of the Peru type 1, Eco-type Cajamarquino line of 15 days of age, with an average initial weight of 392.50g. They were distributed through a completely randomized block design, with sex being the blocking factor, with four treatments and four repetitions for each treatment; growth stage: base diet (T0) without MOS, base diet with 0.2% MOS (T20), base diet with 0.4% MOS (T40) ) and base diet with 0.6% of MOS (T60). Fattening stage: base diet (T0) without MOS, basic diet with 0.1% of MOS (T10), basic diet with 0.2% of MOS (T20) and basic diet with 0.3% of MOS (T30), four repetitions and five guinea pigs per experimental unit. The period of application of the treatment and observations was 45 days. The data were processed with Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the averages of the treatments compared with the Tukey test. In the stages of growth and fattening, the T40 and T30 respectively, presented better weight gain and lower feed conversion unlike the other treatments, likewise the best return to the base diet was 0.4% and 0.3% of MOS in the stage of growth and fattening respectively, with 32.09%.
