OBJECTIVE: To determine if the leucoglycaemic index ≥1600 is a predictor of mortality in patients with ischemic stroke. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A retrospective observational study of a cross- sectional design of a diagnostic test was carried out in which 211 patients with acute ischemic stroke were evaluated and presented to the Belen Hospital in Trujillo during the period 2012-2016. Clinical and laboratory data were collected, including glycemia. and leucogram on admission, from which the value of the leukoglycemic index was calculated and its value as a prognostic marker of mortality was evaluated. RESULTS: It was evidenced in the statistical analysis where a total of 211 patients were included, 31 deaths were recorded (14.7%), it was evidenced that the value of the leukoglycemic index in the patients who died was 1802 ± 814 and of the patients who did not they died 1185 ± 690. The average hospitalization time was 7.55 ± 5.27 days in patients who died and 8.1 ± 5.8 days in patients who did not die. CONCLUSIONS: The value of the leucoglycemic index> 1600 was not a prognostic marker of mortality in patients with acute ischemic stroke and was also associated with intrahospital complications.
