INTRODUCTION: Mechanical intestinal obstruction represents 20% of the most frequent pathologies in surgical practice in cases of acute abdomen. Mortality is 5% in the case of obstruction in the small intestine and 10 to 20% in the case of obstruction in the large intestine. Therefore, the importance of identifying predictive factors in medical care implies adequate attention to symptoms and signs that could indicate this disease and taking timely measures to avoid serious consequences. OBJECTIVE: Determine the factors associated with mortality due to intestinal obstruction at the Santa Rosa Hospital from January 2017 – December 2022. MATERIAL AND METHOD: This study was observational, analytical, retrospective case-control type. Data collection form was used. 33 patients who had died from intestinal obstruction (cases) and 132 living patients with intestinal obstruction (controls) were needed. To evaluate the results, bivariate analysis was used with the risk measure of the odds ratio with its respective 95% confidence interval and Pearson's Chi Square test for its association. RESULTS: We have a population of 165 people, 132 controls and 33 cases; It was evident that the male sex predominated, the most frequent mean age was greater than or equal to 61 years, the mean illness time was 1 to 7 days, the most frequent cause was sigmoid volvulus, the most frequent place was in the large intestine and that the urban population is the most affected. CONCLUSION: Higher mortality in men over 60 years of age. The most common cause was sigmoid volvulus
