Objective: To determine if gestational age, very low birth weight, parenteral nutrition, the use of a central venous catheter and ventilatory support are factors associated with hospital-acquired Klebsiella spp. in neonates treated in critical care at the Víctor Lazarte Echegaray Hospital. Material and methods: A case-control analytical study was carried out, in which 100 newborns treated in intermediate and intensive care units of said hospital were included. Of these, 19 manifested hospital-acquired infection by Klebsiella spp., while 81 did not present such infection. Results: The results indicate a statistically significant association between a lower gestational age and the incidence of hospital-acquired infection due to Klebsiella spp. Likewise, it was observed that 36.8% of newborns with very low birth weight presented this infection, in contrast to 17.3% of newborns with low birth weight, showing a statistically significant difference. However, no other variable analyzed demonstrated a statistically significant association (p > 0.05). Conclusions: Gestational age and very low birth weight are factors significantly associated with hospital-acquired infection by Klebsiella spp. in neonates treated in critical care at the Víctor Lazarte Echegaray Hospital
