To determine to what extent prior cholecystectomy is an associated factor in the presentation of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in patients at the Víctor Lazarte Hospital in Trujillo. MATERIAL AND METHOD: A case-control study was carried out, which evaluated 216 patients divided into two groups: 72 patients with NAFLD (cases) and 144 without NAFLD (controls). RESULTS: in the case group, 52.78% presented cholecystectomy and in the control group 43.36% presented it; for obesity as an associated factor, 47.22% present obesity in the case group and 29.86% present it in the control group; for diabetes mellitus, 61.11% present this disease in the case group and 40.28% present it in the control group; for arterial hypertension, 62.50% present hypertension in the case group and 49.31% present it in the control group; and for weight, 66.67% have a weight greater than 59 kg in the case group and 63.19% present it in the control group. CONCLUSIONS: Cholecystectomy and arterial hypertension do not establish factors associated with NAFLD (p > 0.05) while obesity, diabetes mellitus and weight do (p > 0.05).
