To determine whether disease time greater than 10 years is a risk factor for cognitive dysfunction in patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. Material and Methods: An analytical, cross-sectional study was carried out where the study population consisted of 81 patients diagnosed with systemic Lupus Erythematosus, according to established inclusion and exclusion criteria distributed in two groups: with or without cognitive dysfunction. Patients with systemic Lupus Erythematosus who attended external consultation were collected information through interview, medical history review, and application of Raven's matrice test to establish a diagnosis of cognitive deficit. Results: Statistical analysis showed that disease time greater than 10 years is risk factor for cognitive deficit with a Ratio of 3.08 with a 95% Confidence interval (1.18- 8.01): which was significant (p<0.05); also significant association for arthritis (p<0.05), haematological alterations (p<0.05) and immunosuppressant use (p<0.05) are seen. Conclusions: Disease time greater than 10 years is a risk factor for developing cognitive deficit in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus.
