The aim was to analyze the relationship between stress coping strategies and emotional intelligence in officers and non-commissioned officers of the Province of Trujillo de la Libertad; a descriptive-correlational design was used. It consisted of a sample of 110 police officers between the ages of 22 and 56 years old; two psychological tests were used for data collection: Moos' CRI-A (Spanish adaptation-2010) and Reuven's Bar-On ICE (Peruvian adaptation - 2001). The predominant coping strategy was seeking guidance and support (20%), while the outstanding level of emotional intelligence was average (40.9%). Evidence of highly significant (p<.01) and direct correlation was also found for coping strategies, logical analysis, positive reappraisal, seeking guidance and support, and problem solving with emotional intelligence. Furthermore, the acceptance-resignation and emotional discharge strategies had a highly significant (p<.01) and inverse correlation with emotional intelligence. Furthermore, it is reported that the search for alternative rewards strategy only correlated significantly (p<.05) and directly with emotional intelligence. Finally, all coping strategies had a statistically acceptable correlation with most dimensions of emotional intelligence. Thus, it is concluded that there is a significant relationship between both study variables
