The present thesis, have as purpose propose a design of an inventory management system based on the type of product demand, to reduce the total cost in the Distribution Yulissa Katherine S.A.C., located in the province of Virú, La Libertad. The realization of study began doing an interview with the manager of the distributor whit to purpose to obtain information related to the types of products, the way in how the orders are made, how often it is made and what is the waiting time of the products, in this way to identify which are the products that have greater demand, for that case the ABC analysis and diagram of Pareto was used, where 162 class A priority items were obtained from a total of 320 products. Then the type of demand of the main products was analyzed, by applying the coefficient of variability and determining the best inventory model for each type of demand; where it was obtained that 86.42% have constant demand and 13.58% have variable demand, in this case it was chosen to develop the model EOQ for constant demand and model P for variable demand. Finally, the current costs of the S/ 2´021,399.78 distributor were calculated comparing these costs with the proposed inventory models resulted in a saving of 13.43%, which is very useful for the company.
