Objective: Study the relationship between improper use of the apron and the appearance of gastrointestinal and respiratory diseases in students of Human Medicine UPAO-Piura 2019. Methodology: Basic, Observational, Analytical, Correlational, Cross-sectional. The population 1127 students of the Human Medicine degree, enrolled during the 2019 – I semester, who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The data collection is given by a set of surveys applied to medical students UPAO-Piura cycle 2019 – I. Results: Of the 300 students, the predominant sex was female. The average age was 21 years. 100% say the know the places where the apron should be used (laboratory and Hospital). 59.67% reported that the apron is misused, with 72.06% being the most frequent place in the public highway, of those who us it improperly. 40% reported not washing their hands before and after hospital and / or laboratory practices. 74% of the students were determined through surveys that consume food during hospital practices and / or laboratories. And 26% don´t. 31.33% of medical students presented gastrointestinal diseases. When performing the multivariate analysis for gastrointestinal disease, its association was found with no hand washing (OR: 9.24, P<0.021, IC: 3.24-9.72). Conclusion: An association was found between the improper uses of the apron associated with respiratory diseases. Non-hand washing in the bivariate analysis is associated with gastrointestinal diseases.
