(n=44) no estuvo presente. Del total de pacientes sin dermatitis atópica
(15.4%; n=21) el 14.7% (n=20) presentaron verruga vulgar y en el 0.7% (n=1)
no estuvo presente.
To demonstrate whether there is an association between verruca vulgaris and atopic dermatitis in patients under 17 years of age in the period April 2019 to March 2020. Methods: An observational, prospective, cross-sectional, analytical and retrospective study was carried out to evaluate 136 patients under 17 years of age in the dermatology department, with or without the presence of atopic dermatitis and verruca vulgaris. Data were taken from the clinical records of patients seen between 2019 and 2020, taking into account the inclusion and exclusion criteria for this study. The Chi-square test was used for quantitative variables and the Student's t-test for qualitative variables. The results were considered significant if the p-value was less than or equal to 0.05 and, as this was a cross-sectional study, the prevalence ratio for these variables was obtained. Results: Of the total number of patients with atopic dermatitis (84.6%; n=115), 52.2% (n=71) had verruca vulgaris and 32.4% (n=44) did not. Of the total number of patients without atopic dermatitis (15.4%; n=21) 14.7% (n=20) had verruca vulgaris and 0.7% (n=1) did not. Bivariate analysis showed that atopic dermatitis was associated with verruca vulgaris. (Prevalence ratio %= 64.8; 95% CI: 54.5%-77.1%; p=0.003). Conclusion: Verruca vulgaris is associated with atopic dermatitis in patients younger than 17 years.
