This thesis analyzes the impact of public spending on economic growth in Peru from 1980 to 2021, using the Barro model and an econometric approach. Different studies on the relationship between public spending and economic growth in Latin America and Peru are discussed, and it is concluded that there is a positive correlation between both. The importance of efficient management of public spending and the need to find an optimal balance in tax rates to maximize sustainable economic growth are discussed. The study finds that public investment had a significant impact on economic growth, while current spending did not. It also highlights the challenges in terms of public policy and the need to use state resources efficiently in relation to current spending. The results of the study show that public investment had a significant impact on Peru's economic growth, while current spending did not. In addition, a positive correlation was found between public spending and economic growth in Peru. The efficient management of public spending is important to maximize sustainable economic growth and find an optimal balance in tax rates. The study also highlights the challenges in terms of public policy and the need to use state resources efficiently in relation to current spending. In general, the results of the study provide valuable information for decision-making and the improvement of the well-being of the population in Peru. The Peruvian economy has experienced various crises over time, including the debt crisis and poor macroeconomic policies in the 1980s, and the impact of the global financial crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic
