The research explored the perception of motherhood in professional adult women who postpone being mothers. Perceptions were approached through a qualitative study with phenomenological design in three case studies. An in-depth interview was conducted by each of the three professional women with a successful career, residents of Metropolitan Lima of socioeconomic level A and B +, who ranged between 35 and 40 years old and without fertility problems. The results indicated that the postponement of motherhood responds to the social environment, the role of motherhood and the ideal that it fulfills. It was concluded that the main causes for which the woman chooses to postpone motherhood are internalized discourses, early identifications, the feeling of giving up themselves, the fantasies of hatred towards the future baby and not fulfilling family ideals
