Abstract: ¿Es Pisco, actualmente, una ciudad?
Is the province of Pisco currently a city? After the major earthquake of 2007, measuring 7.9 on Richter Scale, struck the province and caused serious damages to buildings; slightly start to reveal the deep rifts also created in the society. In other words, there were not only physical ruptures in the urban fabric of the city, but the social fabric was affected too. The social fabric, composed of the relationships that arise, day by day, among its inhabitants, was weakened until nowadays. Public spaces lost their borders and became in blurred spots over the map. Thus, in one fell swoop, the city lost vitality. Having no memories, activities and collective imaginations to offer their citizens decreased the quality of life of its citizens. Slowly, the empty physical spaces traduced into identity gaps within their people. Ten years later, many abandoned fields remain the same and important squares start losing their visitants. The axes of the urban center are still there awaiting to be renewal and re-inhabited. In this regard, the proposed project explores the synergy between the concepts learned about the development of urban centers and the Architecture, looking for recovering not only the physical areas but also the identity, collective memory and citizenship. A public living space named “Centro del Pisco” as urban activator, crowded with cultural and commercial interactions involving both local and foreign residents. In other words, a source of public memories
