Professor Beatriz Comina of Princeton University argues that: “The avant-gardists of the first decades of the twentieth century presented their new architecture as an instrument that induces health.“ Architecture does not cure, but it can make life happy. Currently, establishments dedicated to health such as hospitals, health centers, among others, opt for a different architecture, an architecture whose main function is to welcome, integrate and help in the recovery and treatment of patients. The Residential and Psychological Center for people with cancer was born in response to the need for a home designed under these new criteria to help patients who receive treatment in the National Institute of Neoplastic Diseases. The design criteria and the program are strongly defined by the understanding and interpretation that a patient with cancer requires and the spaces that help maintain an optimal mood and a connection with nature. This has been the focal point of the project: to provide an oasis in the midst of chaos (meaning the social definition of cancer disease by chaos). The Residential and Psychological Center for people with cancer is summarized in the search for spatial quality for the user to provide a social and architectural contribution to the community of people who suffer from cancer and do not have a decent place to live.
