The objective of this thesis is to identify those factors that influenced the behavior of exports of cochineal carmine in the period from 2013 to 2017. Because they are markets of particular relevance, we will make a detailed analysis of exports to the European Union and China. The present research has been divided in five chapters. In the first chapter, the theoretical framework is developed, which presents the model of competitive advantages of Michael Porter. In addition, when referring to Peru, we have considered the framework of the commercial policy in the country that promotes exports and is contained in the National Strategic Plan Exported (PENX 2025); therefore, the PENX pillars are used as a tool for analysis. Then, we also analyze the international trade agreements that Peru has with the European Union and China. In chapter 2, the methodology used in the research work is explained, where the techniques and instruments used, the selected sample, the problem, the objectives and hypotheses are mentioned. In chapter 3, the data and results obtained from the interviews and the questionnaire made to the different actors are collected. In chapter 4, the main findings are presented after processing and analyzing the results of the interviews with the different actors. Likewise, the barriers and gaps of the investigation are mentioned. Finally, in chapter 5, the main conclusions and recommendations that were obtained in this thesis are presented.
