Objetives: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the association of pregestational and gestational diabetes and the development of different comorbidities such as fetal distress, transient tachypnea of the newborn, early neonatal sepsis and neonatal mortality. Also, quantify the incidence of pregestational and gestational diabetes and its outcomes. Methods: This retrospective analitic cohort evaluated maternal-perinatal population with a history of diabetes or gestational diabetes and neonatal complications through the years 2000-2015, recorded in the Perinatal Computer System (SIP 2000) of the “Hospital Nacional Dos de Mayo” and ”Hospital Docente Madre Niño San Bartolomé”, Lima, Perú. Results: A total of 145 687 pregnant women were analyzed, with an incidence of 0,16% for pregestational diabetes and an incidence of 0,46% for gestational diabetes. The incidence for fetal distress was 1,48%, 0,51% for transient tachypnea of the newborn, 2,62% for early neonatal sepsis and 0,66% for neonatal mortality. There was no direct association between pregestational and gestational diabetes and the previous outcomes. Conclusions: The incidence for pregestational diabetes in this study was 0,16%, and 0,46% for gestational diabetes. Complications such as fetal distress, transient tachypnea and early neonatal sepsis were not related to diabetes in this particular setting.
