Purpose: This study determines the gang membership-associated factors in peruvian teenagers that took part of the study “Young Lives” (Peru) held during the year 2013. Methods: A secondary analysis of the “Young Lives” study (Peru) was held. Data from the first and forth round were used. Initial sample size was 714 people; nevertheless, due to sample attrition, the final size was 635 participants. Poisson Regression with robust variance was used, and adjusted and unadjusted Prevalence Ratio (PR) was calculated with 95% CI. Results: The prevalence of gang membership was 5.5%. Adjusted for some of the factors, gang membership was positively associated with frequent alcohol use (PR: 3,0; IC 95% 1,3 a 6,7), friendship with gang members (PR: 5,4; IC 95% 1,6 a 17,6) and history of having been arrested by the police (PR: 2,7; IC 95% 1,4 a 5,1). However, there was no association found with other factors such as sex, age, place of origin, wealth index, weapon use, physical violence by family members and caregiver alcohol consumption. Conclusions: Gang membership-associated factors during adolescence were frequent alcohol consumption, friendship with gang members, and police arrest.
