The present investigation analyzes the problematic of the emissions of greenhouse gases linked to the mining industry. The research reviews the state-of-the-art, advantages, disadvantages and identifies opportunities to reduce and compensate the levels of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the mining activity, with the company’s main objective of being declared carbon neutral. In order to measure the level of a mine’s GHG emission to the environment, a process of calculation of carbon foot print was developed.
