This investigation has as main objective to bring comprehension on the meanings of getting tattoed based on the analysis of the cases of three young, tattooed, middle class, college students living with their parents in Metropolitan Lima. The investigation followed a hermeneutic-phenomenologic model. To retrieve information, a dynamic conversational technique was used. Pertinent information was retrieved from experiences with tattoo and personal stories through four interview sessions with each of the subjects. Results show that motivations for getting tattooed were associated with the desire to represent intensely lived emotional experiences that they tried to register transcendentally on their body. These results took different meanings depending on the information gathered for each case; Leandro on the many duels through his life, Sabine on her unstable social links and Andrea on her relationship duels.
