The neutrophil / lymphocyte ratio has been reported as an effective element in the association of severe forms of appendicitis, length of stay, and postoperative complications. For this reason, the present work aims to determine the association of the neutrophil / lymphocyte index and complicated acute appendicitis in patients treated at the Apoyo Iquitos Hospital, 2018-2019. An observational, analytical, retrospective and cross-sectional study was carried out. Concluding that the average amount of neutrophils was higher in patients with complicated acute appendicitis (13.5 + 4.34 x 103 cells/μl) than uncomplicated (12.3 + 4.25 x 103 cells/μl), being this statistically significant difference (p = 0.001), the number of lymphocytes in patients with complicated acute appendicitis (1.5 + 0.82 x 103 cells/μl) is lower than in patients with uncomplicated acute appendicitis (1.9 + 0, 9 x 103 cells/μl) (p = 0.001). It was observed that patients with complicated acute appendicitis had a higher value of the neutrophil / lymphocyte index (11.3 + 7.57 x 103 cells/μl) compared to patients with uncomplicated acute appendicitis (7.7 + 7.38 x 103 cel/μl). Concluding that there is a statistically significant association between the neutrophil / lymphocyte index and complicated acute appendicitis (p <0.001).
