Police personnel worldwide, due to the work they do, have a high risk of presenting mental health problems such as depression, due to the influence of several factors, which have been altered during the COVID-19 pandemic, increasing said risk, factors that will be analyzed in the present study having as population the policemen of the Cusco region. Objective: To recognize the sociodemographic, occupational and clinical factors associated with depression in a Covid-19 pandemic approach in police personnel in the Cusco Region, July 2022. Method: This is a descriptive-analytical, retrospective cross-sectional study in which 233 police officers diagnosed with depression were obtained from a sample of 580 through the PHQ-9 patient mental health questionnaire as well as a questionnaire to identify associated factors. then a bivariate analysis was performed, as well as Spearman's rho coefficient, which allows measuring the degree of association of these factors with the diagnosis of depression. Results: the prevalence of depression was 40.1%, the highest frequency of policemen with depression is between 30-59 years of age (57%, n=133), the highest frequency is male (73.8%, n=172), single ( 41.6%, n=97), economic income less than 3000 soles (84.1%, n=196), provide patrol service (49.9%, n=115), service time <5 years (29.2%, n=68), low exposure to COVID-19 (54.1%, n=126), very good sleep quality (37.8%, n=88), no comorbidity (77.3%, n=180), alcohol dependence, social drinker (72.1%, n=168), degree of mild stress (57.1%, n=133). With degrees of strong association (0.867) for p<0.05 with level of exposure to COVID-19, moderate association (0.574) for p<0.005 with sleep time, strong association (0.76) for p<0.05 with sleep quality and finally moderate association (0.606) for a p<0.05 with stress. Conclusions: It is concluded that the prevalence of depression in police personnel is 40.1%, within the sociodemographic factors it is highlighted that the highest frequency of depression is in the range of 30 to 59 years. The factors that are statistically related to depression were exposure to COVID-19, time and quality of sleep, as well as stress; Such factors influence the development of depression, as well as its severity during the COVID-19 pandemic in police personnel in the Cusco region.
