Resumen: In this article we aim to demonstrate the role of tranexamic acid in patients undergoing Rhinoplasty and discuss the effects on postoperative recovery. We performed a review of articles where the mechanism of action and postoperative effects are evaluated. Sakallioglu et al. described the oral administration of tranexamic acid at a dosage of 1g before surgery, followed by 1g 3x/day for 5 days postoperatively, demonstrating statistical significance in reducing intraoperative blood loss. Ghavimi et al. demonstrated the intravenous use of tranexamic acid at 10mg/kg, with a reduction in edema, bleeding and periorbital ecchymosis, in addition to Vasconcellos et al., who made a comparison between the use of tranexamic acid and placebo, proving a significant decrease in bleeding peri- and postoperatively. Tranexamic acid is a drug that has been increasingly used in plastic surgery, and considering its clinical relevance and the results observed in literature reviews of previously published studies, we can justify its routine use in rhinoplasty.
