OBJECTIVE: To detail and determine the maternal and perinatal complications in the birth and puerperium process of pregnant women with anemia treated at the Antonio Lorena Hospital, Cusco, 2016. METHODOLOGY: Descriptive study, according to quantitative approach, design of non-experimental, retrospective, cross-sectional type. The total population is 1350, applying simple random probabilistic sampling. A sample was obtained from 220 patients with anemia during childbirth and puerperium who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The technique used was the survey and the instrument is the data collection form, which was applied to the clinical records of the patients who were treated with the diagnosis of anemia at the Antonio Lorena Hospital in 2016. RESULTS: Among the results found were: The prevalence of anemia in pregnant women was mild anemia in 44%, moderate anemia in 50% and severe anemia in 6%. Regarding maternal complications in childbirth and puerperium in patients with anemia, it was found that in hypertensive disorders (50%) were due to moderate anemia, preeclampsia without criteria of severity (71%) had moderate anemia, preeclampsia with criteria of severity (64%) had moderate anemia. In hemorrhage 50% was due to moderate anemia, which placenta previa (55%) moderate anemia, placental abruption (50%) mild anemia, uterine rupture (67%) moderate anemia, uterine atony (40%) anemia mild and moderate, retention of placental remains (50%) mild anemia. In the amniotic fluid disorders, 50% had moderate anemia; oligohydramnios (50%) mild anemia, polyhydramnios (67%) moderate anemia. In the infections 50% had moderate anemia, chorioamnionitis (67%) severe anemia, endometritis (40%) moderate and severe anemia, infection of the operative wound (50%) severe anemia. With respect to perinatal complications is 50% had moderate anemia, late premature (61%) moderate anemia, moderate premature (59%) moderate anemia, extreme prematurity (67%) severe anemia. CONCLUSION: Pregnant women with anemia during childbirth and puerperium are more likely to develop perinatal maternal complications.
