The purpose of this research is to determine a proposal for the proper management of municipal solid waste in the populated center San Jeronimo de Sayan. The methodology consisted of four phases: (1) characterization of municipal solid waste (fieldwork), (2) diagnosis of the current situation of the management of municipal solid waste (fieldwork), (3) the stage of calculations and results and finally (4) the preparation of the draft plan of management of solid waste for the population center. To determine the size of sample and data collection, the recommendations of the Pan American Center for Sanitary Engineering and Environmental Sciences [CEPIS] (2004) and the Ministry of Environment [MINAM] (2014) followed. The sample size was 76 home and not home 35 samples, among the latter educational institutions, restaurants, municipal market, public storage containers of waste and waste from street sweeping were considered; in order to determine the local per capita generation (GPCM) per day, the amount and type of waste that is generated in the population center. The results determined that GPCM of populated center San Jeronimo de Sayan is 0.718 kg / person / day, where the generation home represents 90.98%, followed by the educational institutions they represent the 2.71%, the food markets and restaurants with 2.28% and 2.33% respectively. In composition most are organic waste, especially in the municipal market with 90.73% and 71.98% restaurants. As for inorganic waste reusable at the municipal level it has a 17.27%, of which 4.61% glass is the most representative. The proposed plan includes awareness programs, segregation at source, selective storage, improved scanning service, selective waste collection, reuse of waste through segregation and composting and conversion of municipal dump for proper disposal of waste.
