The present investigation had as objectives, to determine the status of food security, and the prevalence of stunting in children under-five in the province of Huaura, department of Lima Peru. To correlate prevalence of stunting in children under-five with access to food and to food biological utilization in this area. Two dimensions of food security were determined: access and biological utilization. A cross-sectional and correlational study was performed that included interviews with mothers, and height measurement on their children younger than five years old. A representative random sampling was taken from residents of all twelve coastal and Andean districts of Huaura province through 2014. The study sample comprised 377 children. The overall prevalence of stunting was 14.1 %, while 68.2% of the study population had difficult access to food, and 34.2 % showed risk conditions for an inadequate biological utilization. The districts with the lowest access to unsafe food in terms of good biological utilization are those with the highest rural population, in the highlands of the province. There was a direct and significant correlation between difficult access to food and stunting prevalence (p <0.001), and a inverse and significant correlation with z-score of height for age. Likewise, there was a direct and significant correlation between risk conditions for an inadequate biological utilization and stunting prevalence (p <0.001), and an inverse correlation with z-score of height for age. The prevalence of stunting in Huaura was slightly lower than the national average, and the food security was still sub-optimal. This highlights the need to implement actions to improve the current situation, through effective interventions that include improvement of access and biological utilization of food
