Peru does not have national cultivars of genetically improved loche squash. The purpose of the thesis-research was to evaluate 29 segregating families of the loche squash (Cucurbita moschata) that were obtained by seed selection from the loche squash fruits. A randomized complete block design (DBCA) with 3 repetitions was used in the Guayabo I experimental field. Botanical seed from a multiplication in a field collection was used. Of the 29 segregating families evaluated, the predominant qualitative characteristics of the fruit were:Green ma in skin, rounded rib shape, flattened base shape, shallow furrow pronunciation, pyriform shape, smooth skin texture, intense mustard yellow color of the pulp and intermediate fibrous quality when chewing the pulp. These parameters were statistically superior to the rest. treatments 9, 19 and 29 were the most outstanding, with quantitative characters based on the diameter of the fruit, pulp thickness, fruit weight and yield. An analysis of principal components and grouping was carried out to determine the descriptors that express the greatest degree of variability. According to the grouping analysis, 10 groups have been formed at a cutting distance of 8.2 with order to select and preserve the most suitable families according to agronomic, organoleptic and quality parameters. In relation to the morphological characterization, the cucurbit descriptors developed by the International Board Plant Genetic Resources Institute (IPGRI) have been adapted, in order to achieve the agronomic characterization of the fruit and this serve as a complement to future research in genetic improvement and production programs on the cultivation of the Loche squash.
