The tropical rainforest is the biome that harbors more than half of the organisms described. The upper vertical strata of the forests, such as the canopy and sub-canopy, contain a large proportion of these organisms, however, spiders are still poorly known in these strata. In Pakitza, a reserved zone of Manu National Park, assessments have been made on the composition of spiders in representative forests in the ground and understory strata. The present research analyses the variation of spider composition in the three forest types obtained for the upper strata of the Old-growth Alluvial Terrace (OAT) forest, Dissected Alluvial Terrace (DAT) forest and Upper Floodplain Forest (UFF) collected by the canopy spraying technique in the months of September - October 1991. A total of 49 plants were analyzed, in which a total of 3335 individuals, 36 families and 599 species were recorded. The most diverse forest was OAT, followed by UFF and DAT. Forest structure followed the Zipf-Mandelbrot model, characterized by low dominance and a high number of rare species. Only two species were dominant in more than one forest, the species Chibchea sp1 in the terrace forests (OAT and DAT), and Janula erythrophthalma Simon in OAT and UFF. The composition was significantly different among the three forest types, sharing among them only 41 species. Forest type significantly influenced spider abundance in general and at the family level. At the ecological guild level, ambush hunter spiders showed significant differences when comparing DAT and UFF forests. Irregular Weaver spiders were better represented in terrace forests (DAT and OAT). Changes in abundance and diversity between forests can be explained by the complexity of the habitat in each of them; comparisons between DAT and OAT, in which the same plant species (bamboo) was evaluated, show that the surrounding vegetation and the degree of erosion of the substrate also influence spider diversity.
