American turfgrass (Stenotaphrum secundatum) is present in 2 400 ha in the city of Lima. Therefore, the relative importance of determinate and understand the water requirement in the turfgrass are of great interest to the economic and environmental point of view. Another important aspect related to the crop coefficients are the kind of method for their determination. This study uses economics drainage lysimeters that were adjusting to the agronomic characteristics of the American turfgrass. Accordingly, the main objective is to determine the crop coefficient for it using drainage lysimeters from the month of March until July in the UNALM. The drainage lysimeter was optimum based on the following terms: economy, reliability and stability. Moreover, the monitoring of the meteorological data was done with an automatic meteorological station, additionally was provided with a class A evaporation pan. The evaporation pan offered the necessary information to know the irrigation sheets to be replaced considering a factor of 0,8 to know the reference crop evapotranspiration (ETo). Also, was verified the statistical reliability of the ETo obtained from the meteorological station with regard to the value determined by the method of the evaporation pan. The soil-water balances served to obtain the crop evapotranspiration (ETc) values that were lower than a unit during the study period. The intervening variables for the balances were the following: irrigation, precipitation, variation of soil moisture and drained water. The result of this research determine that the value for the crop coefficient (Kc) of the American turfgrass fluctuated between 0,89 to 0,62 in La Molina from the month of March until the month of July taking into consideration a total coverage in the experimental plots.
