The present work of professional sufficiency was developed in the field of urban trees and green areas, because of their importance and environmental, cultural and social benefits they provide to the community. However, due to the accelerated demographic growth, they are relegated to spaces with limited soil quality, lack of water and/or lack of attention from the competent authorities. The objective of this work is to implement strategies for the sustainable management of urban trees and green areas in the district of San Juan de Lurigancho. To achieve this, a series of studies have been carried out, among them: Censuses, evaluations and complementary observations. The results have been used to propose three strategies: The first is the selection of tree species; then the selection of ground cover species and finally the strategy of motivation and awareness of the importance of trees and green areas in the city. Both the tree species and ground covers studied have low water requirements; taking into account the desert zone of the district that represents our study area and observing the limitations in the water supply, these species allow the rational and adequate use of the water resource with sustainability, implemented complementarily in the contemplative green areas (not utilitarian), the replacement of the grass by xerophyte ground covers. Also, taking into account the characteristics of the study area such as climate, soil and infrastructure, two forestry activities are proposed: the implementation of types of propagation of forest species in the nursery suitable for the district, and the establishment of criteria for afforestation in high-risk areas, such as the slopes of the hills.
