The objective of this study was to determine the effects of four sources of commercial phytases on the performance and bone integrity of broilers from 1 to 28 days old. 300 oneday old Cobb 500 male chickens were distributed into 30 floor pens (10 birds per pen) and fed the experimental diets for 28 days. Five pens received one of the following treatments: T1, phosphorus adequate diet (PAD); T2, phosphorus deficient diet (PDD); T3, PDD + phytase A (100 g/TM); T4, PDD + phytase B (100 g/TM); T5, PDD + phytase C (50 g/TM) and T6, PDD + phytase D (50 g/TM). Feed and water were provided ad libitum. Live weight, weight gain, feed consumption, feed conversion, and mortality were recorded weekly. At 28 days of age, 20 birds per treatment were sacrificed to determine carcass and leg yield, and, weight, moisture and ash content of the tibias. The results showed that performance of broilers fed the PAD (T1) was significantly different (P<0.05) than that of the other treatments. The performances of broilers under diets that contain phytase A and C or B and D were not significantly different (P>0.05) while the group that received the PDD (T2) showed the lowest performance. Tibia ash values of all treatments, with the exception of T2, were adequate and not different among them. It is concluded that the performance of broilers that were fed the phosphorus deficient diet plus each of the different sources of commercial phytases was lower than that of the group that received the phosphorus adequate diet.
