The objective of the present investigation was to evaluate the response of partial root irrigation in the cultivation of sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas) variety Jonathan, using underground drip irrigation (RGS). The field work was carried out in the demonstration plot of the Department of Hydric Resources (DRH) of the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering, at the Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina, during the months of February to June 2018. The experimental plot had an effective area 360 m2. Two treatments were used and the underground drip irrigation system was used in both, applying an irrigation sheet at 100% and 50% of the water need of the crop. Both treatments had the same amount of area and plants, a completely randomized design was worked with two treatments and each one with ten repetitions. According to the results obtained, it is concluded that the amounts of water applied were 3624 m3 ha-1 and 2015 m3 ha-1 for the treatments with sheets of 100% and 50% respectively. Value that represents 70% (RGS) and 40% (RGSP) of the amount used by producers who work with gravity irrigation. The harvest yield was 27.70 t ha-1 for RGS and 21.80 t ha-1 for RGSP, both results were favorable for the experiment since the national average yield for Jonathan sweet potato is around 17.8 t ha- 1, taking into account that producers work with gravity irrigation. In addition, a water use efficiency of 7.64kg / m3 was achieved in RGS and 10.81Kg / m3 in kg / m3.
