In the current context of climate change, periods of drought and increased precipitation have been observed more frequently and prominently in tropical regions. In northern Peru, one of the most significant events in climatic interannual variability occurs: El Niño. Unfortunately, Peru lacks sufficient instrumental climate information, leading to the exploration of proxy archives for reconstructing past climates. The seasonally dry forests (SDF) of the Marañón region, one of the most threatened biomes, serve as a crucial area where tree samples from Bursera graveolens, Cedrela kuelapensis, and Eriotheca peruviana were collected using both destructive and non-destructive methods. The objective was to characterize the growth rings of these species to identify their associations with local and global climate processes and to reconstruct past climates. Dendroclimatological techniques were applied using both instrumental and modeled climate data. The results reveal that B. graveolens reached ages of 110 years, C. kuelapensis 117 years, and E. peruviana 173 years, with mean intercorrelations of 0.403, 0.422, and 0.38, respectively. It was confirmed that the growth of these species is influenced by precipitation seasonality and the El Niño phenomenon (ENSO).
