The purpose of this research work was to analyze the ecotoxicological risk of wastewater treated by a UASB reactor at the pig farm of the National Agrarian University La Molina. To achieve this objective, there were evaluated the acute ecotoxicological effects of these effluents through bioassays with Daphnia magna, Lactuca sativa and Vibrio fischeri, as well as the chronic effects in D. magna. From the results obtained in the bioassays, it was possible to characterize the risk of the samples by means of the calculation of three coefficients. The first coefficient found was the toxic unit (TU), being found values from 3,60 to figures higher than 149,25 for the influent, while the range of the effluent was from 3,60 to 107,53. The second coefficient was the potential ecotoxic effect probe (PEEP) of each sample, obtaining 0,26 in the influent and 0,22 in the effluent. The risk quotient (RQ) was the last variable calculated, with the values corresponding to the influent ranging from 4,45 to over 149,25, while the range for the effluent was 4,27 to 107,53. From what was obtained, it was concluded that the use of a UASB reactor in the treatment of pig waste water reduces the ecotoxicological risk, but the effluent still represents a slight risk to the ecosystems because, although there are differences between TU, PEEP and RQ at the entrance and exit of the UASB reactor, the system is not sufficient to prevent the samples from being no longer very toxic with respect to their TU and of high risk with respect to their CR; however, when evaluating the IETP, a negligible toxic load was obtained due to the low flow rate in and out of the reactor.
